About Kalki Subramaniam
Kalki Subramaniam was born in Pollachi in Tamilnadu. She is a gender rights activist, author, actor, inspirational speaker and an entrepreneur. She is the founder of Sahodari Foundation which works for the social, economic and political empowerment of transgender persons in India. Kalki holds two Master’s degrees - Masters in Journalism and Mass Communication and Masters in International Relations. She has been one of the strong voices of the transgender people of India and has devoted her life for social justice and equality. She has stood up against violence, injustice and discrimination and has been continuously advocating for equal rights. Kalki has done lot of ground work for the path to the victory of legal rights recognition of transgender people by the supreme court of India.
Facebook chose Kalki as one of the 12 inspiration women of the world who use social media for community development.She has been invited to Rashtrapati Bhavan and was an offcial guest of the United States of America in 2010. She has receved several awards for her gender rights activism, performing arts and literature.
